Over the past fifteen years, Rovinj and Istria as a whole have experienced a true renaissance and have become extremely attractive destinations both for tourism and for living.

Considering the beautiful views of centuries-old towns and smaller places such as Rovinj, Novigrad, Motovun, Grožnjan and many others, surrounded by preserved nature and the sea, it does not take much analysis to understand what attracts an increasing number of people to Istria – whether for holidays or for permanent residence.

Below we will highlight some of the most important factors that lead more and more people to choose life in Istria.

The most significant advantages of living in Istria

1. SAFETY

On a global level, there is currently a strong sense of insecurity caused by wars, political instability and increasing crime in large urban areas. Because of this, more and more people are considering moving to safer and more peaceful environments.

In this context, it is important to emphasize that Croatia is generally a very safe country. According to the Institute for Economics and Peace and their Global Peace Index, Croatia has consistently ranked among the 20 safest countries in the world in recent years.

Similarly, in international surveys on perceived safety, Croatia often stands out as one of the countries where people feel very safe walking alone at night.

Within Croatia itself, Istria is considered one of the safest regions. A strong sense of community and trust is still present – many residents still do not feel the need to lock their cars, parents feel safe letting their children walk to school independently, and there is generally a strong local community that looks after the safety of its citizens.

2. CLIMATE

Istria can boast an excellent microclimate characterized by mild winters and moderately warm summers, making it very pleasant to live in throughout the entire year.

Finally, it is important to emphasize that numbers and statistics can certainly help when choosing a place to live, but they are rarely the decisive factor.

Our interaction with numerous clients who decided to live in Istria has led us to conclude that something else was decisive for their decision – something that cannot easily be expressed through numbers: the so-called “ease of living in Istria.”

In Istria, as in much of Croatia, a slower and more relaxed pace of life is still cherished. People value time spent with family and friends, coffees that often last for hours, business lunches that turn into friendly gatherings, and family barbecues outdoors.

Local ingredients also hold a special place in everyday life: truffles, wild asparagus, fresh fish, Istrian prosciutto, sausages and ombolo, as well as excellent local wines.

When it comes to quality of life, in Istria one often gets the feeling that time has slowed down just enough to allow people to pause and remember what truly matters in life.
